Healthy employees make for a healthy business according to an Australian study which found that there is a measurable link between a person’s health and lifestyle and how productive they are at work.

The healthiest Australian employees are three times more productive than their unhealthy colleagues and workers with poor health status are nine times more likely to have sick days compared to healthy workers.

Lifestyle ‘risk’ factors such as lack of physical exercise, excess weight, smoking and drinking contribute to this time away from work.

50% of Australian workers engage in minimal or no exercise, 62% are overweight, 53% are stressed and 56% do not get enough sleep.

Workplace studies show that companies that introduce health and well-being programs enhance productivity and efficiency, promote employee loyalty and help reduce absenteeism and accidents in the workplace.

Many employers are becoming increasingly engaged in the health of their employees not only to be socially responsible, but to improve company performance.
